organize a congress

UIA congresses are organised by a host UIA Member Section. Congress bids are submitted to the UIA general assembly and selected by vote six years in advance of the event. If you are a Convention Center wishing to welcome a UIA Congress, please contact the Member Section of your country (See the list)

Sections wishing to organise a UIA Congress must provide all the information indicated in the Terms of Reference, available on the UIA website, to the UIA Secretariat in Paris. After the UIA Secretary General’s review of submissions, the UIA Council qualifies a shortlist of candidate cities during its meeting 6 months prior to the General Assembly.

Then, Member Sections submit their candidature to the Assembly – usually in the form of a video projection, accompanied by a personal presentation – in a limited time of 20 minutes. The Assembly vote on the candidatures presented.

In general, if the number of architects is estimated at 1,500,000, an expected attendance of approximately one percent is an attainable objective, if the provided preparations for the Congress are properly made.
