![]() The competition theme was public squares of the future. The competitors, young architects born after 1971, were invited to imagine a scenario, on the site of their choice, for the layout and staging of urban spaces to encourage exchange between citizens today and tomorrrow. The international jury was chaired by Cengiz Bektas (Turkey) and composed of Sasa Randic (Croatia), Luciano Lazzari (Italy), Aysun Cosar Regnier (Turkey) and Dejan Stampar (Slovenia). The 78 projects submitted were examined and three prizes and one special mention were awarded. The first prize went to Taymour Moustafa Senbel (Egypt), for his universal platform project, a traditional square on which are installed hydraulic units offering infinite spaces, transformations and uses. Second prize: Atakan Palasoglu (Turkey), a novel solution for what are very unpleasant places, that is, traffic intersections. The project proposes the creation of an artificial topography, a new concept for public and private transport and for pedestrian mouvement. Third prize: Fagner Marcal Fonseca and Olivia Marra (Brazil) for their ‘Cangas’ project. These beach towels use electronic components that react to pressure and temperature to create dynamic colouring on Copacabana beach. A special mention was awarded to the project by Jorge Cortes de Castro. http://www.youngarchitectsmeeting.com/ana.cfm |
