Goran Rako winner of the 12th Thyssenkrupp Elevator Architecture Award

TThe Croatian team led by architect Goran Rako wins TyssenKrupp Elevator Architecture Award following the international competition for the design of a disaster prevention and education centre in Istanbul. This competition was run under the auspices of the International Union of Architects.

The second prize went to a team from Vietnam led by Manuel Der Hagopian; the third to the Lebanese team led by Yousef Mallat. Ten mentions were also awarded.

The international jury included the Mayor of Istanbul Kadir Topbas and prestigious architects amongst whom, Jaume Duró y Pifarre (Spain) – UIA representative and UIA past President. The jury examined 287 projects submitted by architects in 59 countries.

The aim of the competition is the creation of an exemplary facility, equipped with technological and educational infrastructures to prepare the public to face earthquakes and other disasters and their consequences and apply the appropriate preventive and curative measure
