 Brussels-Capital Region and the Federal State of Belgium launched an international competition, by invitation, for the urban design of the Robert Schuman Square and its surroundings in the city of Brussels. This strategic point of the Belgian capital, in the centre of the European district, surrounded by majestic buildings and the Jubilee Park, merited exceptional urban analysis.The winning project is that presented by the office Xaveer de Geyter architects Brussels in collaboration with Michel Desvigne, Ney 1 Partners and Tritel. The jury particularly appreciated the strength, elegance, readability and simplicity of the project that proposes a real identity for the square. The jury highlighted the capacity of the project to create a new and attractive urban focus point. This competition was approved by the International Union of Architects, represented on the jury by the Austrian Peter Lorenz. An exhibition of the six finalist projects is planned during 2012.
