7th International Architecture Olympiad
Future architects from Korea and Singapore illustrate speed and slownesss

Since 2005, the Federation of Institutes of Korean Architects, (FIKA) together with the School of Architecture and Architecture Engineering of Hanyang University, Korea (HYU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) organises every year the “International architectural Olympiad”. The International Union of Architects has supported the Olympiad since the beginning.

This confrontation of projects by high school students of the two countries seeks to highlight the emerging talent of these young people who aspire to becoming architects. The Olympiad aims to offer these young adolescents and the public at large an opportunity to get a better understanding of architecture, urban environment and environmental resources.

The students who registered for the seventh session were received by the two Universities in April 2011, and had four hours to design an architectural project on a common theme, “Speed and Slowness”. A text extracted from Milan Kundera’s novel “Slowness”, was chosen as the source of inspiration for the young architects of tomorrow whose projects had to be realized as models.
