Four themes for the ideas competition open to students worldwide

The organisers of the UIA Congress, TOKYO 2011, announce an ideas competition open to architecture students worldwide. They are invited to develop one of the four themes proposed on different sites, located within a 60 km radius of the Tokyo metropolitan area, with a view to its development in 2050.
  • Regenerate a 20th century city. In the scientific city of Tsukuba, an international medical and nursing centre linked with the University in the northern part of Katsuragi District
  • Revitalise a city. In Tsuchiura, development of transport, residential, buisness hub and creation of a water sports and leisure centre
  • An ecological new city. Inashiki Garden City of the 21st century
  • A SmartRegion.The Kasumigaura southern coastal region.

Jury
The jury will be composed of Kengo Kuma (Japan), Yung Ho Chang (China), Peter Hall (United Kingdom), Ms. Kate Schwennsen (USA), Nobuaki Furuya (Japan). Technical advisor: Hidehiko Sazanami (Japan).

Prizes
Three prizes of 300000, 200000 and ¥ 100000 JPN respectively will be awarded as well as three other prizes in each of the four categories (200000, 100000 and ¥ 50000 JPN)
Additional prizes will be offered by UIA Member Sections.

Registration and Deadlines
The entire competition procedure will be developed on-line. The competition language is English.
The registration fee is ¥ 4 000 JPN.
