PRESTIGIOUS PRIZE WINNERS


1997 PRIZE WINNERS

The jury for the 1997 Awards met in New Orleans (USA) last May. Composed of Hugh Newell Jacobsen (USA), Patricia Patkau (Canada) and Christian de Portzamparc (France), it awarded two prizes both of which were for buildings located in Japan:

In the commercial buildings category, the prize went to the International Forum of Tokyo, by Rafael Vinoly (USA), winner of the international design competition launched in 1989, with the approval of the International Union of Architects -UIA;

In the residential buildings category, the prize was awarded to a little guest house, situated along the Atami coast on the Pacific Ocean, near the villa Huga of which it is an annexe, and which was designed by Bruno Taut.

 

Two mentions were also awarded:

To the Chapel Museum of Byzantine frescoes in Houston (Texas - USA), designed by François de Menil (USA);

To the << Terrasson greenhouse >> in a park near Bordeaux, France, designed by the British architect Ian Ritchie.

A sixth edition of the Awards is planned for 1998. Sara Topelson de Grinberg, UIA President and Rafael Vinoly, winner in the 1997 edition, will participate in the jury.
