Interconnection & communication in the Bering Strait.

The Foundation for Peace and Unification (FPU) announces an international ideas competition for the Bering Strait. This competition is open to architects and students of architecture and other professionals worldwide. In accordance with the UIA-UNESCO regulations, it has been approved by the International Union of Architects–UIA.

The competition programme concerns a peace park linking the two Diomede islands situated in the middle of the Strait. Projects should also propose an idea for the method and technique to be used for connecting the two continents.

Jury
The international juryis composed of: Sungjung Chough, architect, Republic of Korea; Moongyu Choi, architect, Republic of Korea; Joel Sanders, architect, USA; Andrei Bokov, architect, Russian Federation; Luciano Lazzari, architect, Italy, representing UIA. Andrei Kaftanov, architect, Russian Federation, deputy member representing UIA.

Prizes
A total of 200 000 US$ will be awarded to the winners:

Professional category:
1st prize 80 000 US$ ; 2nd prize 40 000 US$; Three 3rd prizes of 10 000 US$ each
The jury may also award honourable mentions

Student category:
1st prize 20 000 US$; 2nd prize 10 000 US$; Four 3rd prizes of 5 000 US$ each.
The jury may also award honourable mentions.

The registration fee, non refundable, is 150US$ for the professionals and 50 US$ for students of architecture. The competition languages are English and Korean.
