International Biennal Prize for Architecture
« Barbara Cappochin »
2005 Edition


The Barbara Cappochin Prize for Architecture is intended to become a window for a synthesis between the project, the realisation of the project and the client.

This international prize is an initiative of the BARBARA CAPPOCHIN Foundation in association with the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape architects and Building conservators of the Province of Padua and is launched in collaboration with the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the National Council of Italian Architects, Planners, Landscape architects and Building conservators (CNAPPC).


OBJECTIVES


The aims of this Prize are:
• To promote quality in contemporary architecture in relation to the city with a view to stimulating a debate to allow the comparison between international architecture and local architecture.
• To strengthen the public's awareness and passion for architecture.
• To highlight the growing consciousness of public and private promoters, planners and builders for the quality of architectural landscape as an essential factor of our society.


NATURE OF SUBMISSIONS


The Prize is open to architects or multi-disciplinary teams led by an architect who wish to submit a work that has been completed between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2004 in Padua or anywhere else in the world and belong to one of the following categories of building:
• Residential
• Commercial or administrative
• Sports or recreational
• Religious
• Public facilities (educational, civil, cultural or health facilities).


PRIZE


A grand prize of 50 000 € will be awarded to the most outstanding entry, independent of category and location. A prize of 5 000 € will be awarded to a realisation located in the province of Padua. In addition, the winning candidates will receive a sculpture in bronze by the artist Pino Castagna. The clients and construction companies associated with the prize-winning entries will be awarded with the same sculpture. The jury will also select the best entry in each category for an honorary mention. Furthermore, the jury can also select three other noteworthy projects located in the province of Padua for honorary mention.


TERMS OF PARTICIPATION


By 23 September 2005 participants must send the following documents to the organisers:
• Two graphical tables in A1 format
• A technical report of no more than two pages in A4 format
• A statement to attest the date of completion of the building
• An identification form giving the name and contact details of the planners, of the client and the construction company
• A CD Rom containing the two tables in electronic format photographs of the building and an information sheet on the site, the planners, the client and the construction company.

The languages used will be Italian or English.

There is no registration fee.
