CELEBRATION OF AIR AND WATER

The aim of this project is the re-establish air circulation and cooling in a densely built area of Athens by restructuring the streets and the buildings’ internal courtyards.

It is a clear presentation of simple but effective interventions. In addition to using passive cooling (draughts, shade, and water) the project includes the installation of solar chimneys on the building facades and downdraught evaporative cooling towers. A resurfacing of the streets is also planned (paving instead of asphalt, green areas, etc…) to improve both micro-climatic conditions and the aesthetic quality of these urban spaces.
