International Confrontation of projects of architecture
2005 UNESCO Prize for Architecture
|

|
"EXTREME Creating Space in Extreme and Extraordinary conditions" is theme for the next Confrontation of projects for students of architecture, organised in the framework of the XXII UIA Congress. The Confrontation is endowed with the prestigious UNESCO Prize for Architecture, of a value of 7 000 US $, and of a number of other prizes offered by UIA Member Sections and private donors.

PROGRAMME

|
|
The aim of this Confrontation is to give future architects the opportunity of putting their creative potential to the test in challenging conditions of their choice where they will design spaces in terms of extraordinary geographic, topographic, ecological, social or political contexts.
Entries presented should address the needs of target groups and specific functions for long or short-term use:
• shelter, work, production/manufacturing, recreation/leisure, transportation, culture, education, research, security, etc.
• places for the expression of faith (religious, political, utopian);
• places for the poor, for the rich or for the dead;
• ergonomic or monumental.
Each submission will be based on a scenario chosen by the competitor defining the place or places, the context and the extent of the intervention.

• The prize-giving ceremony will take place on July 6, 2005, during the XXII UIA Congress in Istanbul.

JURY

The international jury will be composed as follows: Mrs Brigitte Colin, representing UNESCO, Wolf Tochtermann, representing the UIA, Karl Gänser (Germany), Mrs Nazli Gönensay (Turkey/USA), Mrs Bonnie Maples (Canada), Chong Chia Goh (Singapore), Omar Mohammed Kamal Rabie (Egypt), Can Elmas (Turkey), Nevzat Sayin (Turkey), Sevki Pekin (Turkey).

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

|
|
Participants can register by post, by e-mail or by fax, using the registration form that may be downloaded on the competition site or obtained from the organisers. The registration fee is 25 US $ to be paid by bank transfer to the order of: TMMOB Mimarlar Odasi IS BANKASI Bank, Mesrutiyet Subesi Branch, Branch code 4213, Account number 301030 714067.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

|
|
Entries will be presented on 2 panels, format A1 (59,4cm X 84,1cm) used vertically. An explanatory note of 200 words approximately, format A4 (21cm X 29,7 cm) shall be included on the panels. A CD Rom including an electronic version of the project on a 1/1 scale. The competition language is English.
