The Italian promotional company Isola del Fiume, in collaboration with the municipal administration of the city of Fiume Veneto, is launching an international ideas competition, open and anonymous, for the plans of Fiume Veneto Island.

Conform to the UNESCO-UIA regulations on international competitions, this competition has been approved by the International Union of Architects (UIA).

The competition site, Fiume Veneto Island, covers approximately 100000 m2 and is currenly occupied by a disaffected cotton mill, a hydroelectric plant, and an old grain mill from the 13th century that is in close proximity to the site.

The goal of the competition is to create a masterplan that respects the characteristics of the property, its delicate landscape and environment, as well as its “island” configuration.

The programme includes: housing and relative services; renovating the hydroelectric plant; river park and sports facilities; a civic centre and town hall; a museum and an auditorium; the primary and secondary infrastructures. Given the private nature of this operation, the economic feasibility of the entire intervention must be ensured.

The competition is open to architects from around the world that practise in their home country or in Italy.

Each competitor must submit to the organisers a registration form with their complete name, nationality, postal and electronic addresses, telephone and fax numbers, as well as proof of payment of the 50 Euro registration fee.
