The project is an example of an ecological and sustainable city, whose development is determined by the landscape. It proposes a new outline of the city which enables the use of a vast parcel of land, thus enriching the amount of property available to the municipality. |
| Jury citation This project opens the way for the realisation of a model site for the future of Izmir. It creates a vision of viable density of buildings with high-rise development and also provides large open spaces for public use. This building development will alleviate the pressure on the historical city core by attracting building activities to this area. The second very important contribution is the development around the Bayrakli (old Smyrna) archaeological site. It offers the opportunity of a starting point for the urban development of this symbolic site, which, by emphasising Bayrakli, has an important status in the archaeology of Western Anatolia. Here the potential is to be realised easily. In addition, a network of pedestrians and cyclists and parks constitutes part of a larger communication system. |
