SOLIDARITY WITH THE VICTIMS OF THE CYCLONE KATRINA |

APPEAL TO ALL UIA MEMBER SECTIONS
In the wake of the terrible cyclone that cruelly plunged the southern region of the United States of America into mourning, the world community of architects, through the voice of the International Union of Architects, expresses its profound emotion and most sincere condolences to the victims of this disaster and to their families.
In a message addressed to the President of the American Institute of Architects, Douglas Steidl, UIA President Gaetan Siew echoed the architects' solidarity and assured him of the determination of the Union's officers to respond to all specific requests for assistance from the AIA in the framework of its aid programme for the reconstruction of the devastated areas. He also proposed that any UIA action be co-ordinated with that of the other organisations of architects.
In an initial action, the AIA organised assistance for architects in the disaster stricken areas and called upon its members to contribute to the emergency actions by getting in contact with the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
