Haiti & Qinhai solidarity
Aid for victims in Haiti and Qinhai

On 26 April last, in the presence of Louise Cox, UIA President, a charity auction of works of young Macanese artists was held in Macau. This Charity Exhibition and Benefit Auction & Dinner was organised to aid the victims of the Haiti and Qinghai earthquakes.

This fund raising event was organised on the initiative of the International Union of Architects by Albergue SCM with the support of the Association of Architects of Macao (AAM), the Macao Foundation and Macao Tower.

This event raised 1016 760 MOP, approximately 100 000 euros, that will be shared between two earthquake victims’ aid organisations: the Emergency Architects Foundation for Haïti and the governmental aid programme for the reconstruction of Qinghai created by the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of China.

On the occasion of an official ceremony in Macau, on 24 June 2010, architect Carlos Marreiros, Director of Albergue SCM and AAM Past President, symbolically handed over this donation to Joseph Kwan, Director of the UIA Work Programme Architecture for all, who received it on behalf of the UIA.
