Call for international solidarity with young architectes from l'Aquila

Meeting in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, on July 30th and 31st, the UIA Council voted its support for a call for international solidarity launched by Mauro Latini on behalf of young architects from the capital city of the Abruzzo region, L’Aquila, Italy, which suffered terrible damage during an earthquake last April.

Architects from around Europe and the world are encouraged to open their agencies to young architects from L’Aquila for an internship period that will allow them to continue practicing architecture, provide them with international experience, and most importantly, help relieve the profound psychological disarray caused by this tragedy.

There are 106 architects whose agencies were in the historic centre of the city of Aquila, and who are now left without any way to practice their profession.

Architects willing to offer a professional mission to a young architect from Aquila are invited to contact Mauro Latini directly.

Mauro Latini is an alternate member of the UIA Council, a member of international delegation in the Italian National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape architects, and Conservationists (CNAPPC), and a native of Abruzzo.

The earthquake that struck Abruzzo on the night of 5 to 6 April 2009, left 308 casualties, 1179 injured, and 70 000 homeless.
