UIA corporate partners in Turin

For the first time during a UIA world congress, a session brought together renowned architects and leaders in the construction industry around presentations of buildings by their designers. This session was held in the morning on 3 July.

Together with the HOLCIM Foundation, architect Bruno Stagno presented the Foundation’s headquarters in Costa Rica, a building entirely focused on the protection of the environment and energy restrictions, a true laboratory of sustainable architecture.

ArcelorMittal chose Claude Vasconi to demonstrate the multiple resources of steel in façades and structures – as used in the Dexia-Bil administrative Centre in Luxembourg, and present a beam, designed with the industrialist, integrating the flow of all fluids and cables.

With DOW CORNING, designers Marc Larmuseau of Montois Partners and David Roulin of Art and Build, presented the recent and prestigious glass complex “Covent Garden Royal Rogier”, in Brussels.

The theme of rehabilitation, with the specific constraints encountered in the former Figaro headquarters in Paris, was that chosen by KONE and developed through the voice of François Laville.

Enrico Frigerio and PHILIPS focussed on the electrical plant in Sparanise, Italy, to develop the theme of the insertion of an industrial building in the natural landscape and the role of light and colour in such a context.

SOMFY and architect John Peterson, presented the Manitoba Hydro building in Winnipeg, Canada, one of the most energy efficient large scale buildings; an exemplary construction adapted to the rigorous climate.

Architect Alfred Schelenz presented, with TROX, the Capricorn Haus Media Harbour in Düsseldorf, Germany and their design of innovative glass façades that react to the most complex climatic variations and the highest comfort standards.

The association between architect and construction industry as revealed through the presentation of these complex and varied architectural programmes, proves to be atrue asset in terms of architectural quality but also an efficient means of providing solutions to the major challenges of construction: energy, climatic, technological and environmental challenges.

Seven UIA corporate partners: ArcelorMittal, DOW CORNING, HOLCIM Foundation, KONE, PHILIPS, SOMFY and TROX had the opportunity of presenting their companies to the delegates at the UIA General Assembly representing more than 120 countries.
