Port Louis Urban Development
(Mauritius)

Port-Louis Municipality announces an open international ideas competition, in one stage, for the design of a masterplan for the urban development of the city.

In conformity with the UNESCO-UIA regulations for international competitions in architecture and town planning, this competition has been approved by the International Union of Architects (UIA).

OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAMME

Situated in a horse-shoe shaped enclave surrounded by the chain of mountains and opening onto the sea, the city of Port Louis is faced today with a number of problems; development, traffic and the defacement of its built heritage. Besides, the expansion of the port and free port greatly influence the city's growth.

The aim of the competition is to obtain a coherent and harmonious urban development plan for Port Louis. This global masterplan will address, amongst other things, the urban insertion of two sites located in the area to be developed: the Old Barracks and Victoria Station; the North Station.
