OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAMME

The new project is part of the municipal authority's strategy for the betterment of a quality urban life.
The city of Seoul has a rich cultural environment with concert halls, performing arts centres, museums and many other monuments of historic importance. Yet the city desires to add another architectural landmark which will symbolise the cultural richness of this dynamic world-class city.
The project will be located on the Island of Nodeul in the Hangang River that divides the city of Seoul north and south.
The Performing Arts Centre, will include an Opera House and a Concert hall, of around 1500 seats each, an open-air concert area and other related facilities and amenities.
Proposals should resolve a number of other issues including:
• Access to Nodeul Island and the proposed Performing Arts Centre;
• Landscaping of the Island;
• Land use considering floods that can affect about half of the Island;
• Noise disturbance related to the arterial road and neighbouring railroad bridge.
