Within the framework of the World Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (1997-2006), the International Union of Architects launched an international competition in 1997 on this theme. The competition was open to architects and architecture students worldwide.
386 projects from 55 countries were submitted to an international jury which met in Bucharest (Romania) at the invitation of the Union of Architects of Romania (UAR), which organised the adjudication and exhibition of the projects. The exhibition of the prize-winning projects was presented in Lausanne during the commemoration of the UIA 50th anniversary, then in Berlin and later in Beijing during the Union's World Congress. A publication on the competition was produced for this occasion.
Edited by SIMETRIA and the Union of Architects of Romania, the book presents the 2 award winning projects, the 6 projects given special mentions, and the 45 given mentions.
It is on sale at the UIA General Secretariat for 20 Euros plus postal charges (5 Euros within EC, 10 Euros other countries).
