WAN Awards for healthcare facilities, 2010 winners

World Architecture News announces the winners of its awards in the healthcare sector for both built and un-built projects. The Tseshaht First Nation Health Centre and multiplex, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, designed by Lubor Trubka Associates Architects was victorious in the built category; Shenzen Third Peoples’ Infectious Disease Hospital, designed by TRO Jung Brannen, was declared winner in the un-built category.

The jury, amongst whom, Wendy de Silva, a Sri Lankan born architect, UIA representative, was greatly impressed by the quality of the projects as a whole. In the words of juror Phil Nedin (Arup Associates), Lubor Trubka Associates encapsulated “the way to be going forward - a message about the importance of healthcare on a very local community services level”. For Claudia Bloom, also juror, Shenzen hospital hospital “pulls all aspects together in the clearest and most elegant architectural expression”.

The WAN Awards programme is organised by World Architecture News, the international on-line magazine, a UIA media partner. Each session of this bi-monthly awards programme, is devoted to a different sector of the built environment. The up-coming session, for urban design, will open on 12 July 2010.
