Results of the WAN AWARDS 2010 for Civic Building

The exceptional quality of the built and unbuilt submissions, caused the WAN Awards civic buildings jury to award three prizes in this 2010 session.

The winners in the un-built category are: Hariri Pontarini Architects, from Canada, for the Baha’ie Temple in Santiago de Chile and the Korean team Samoo architects and Engineers for the New York Korea Centre. In the built category, jury unanimously chose to honour the Seaford Life Saving Club in Frankston, near Melbourne, the work of Australian architect RobertSimeoni.

The jury found that the variety of the projects submitted highlighted the different cultural approaches from around the world and the impact this can have on local architecture. The jury furthermore noted with regard to the Seaford Life Saving Club in Frankston, that in a world where economic problems are still in the forefront, the buildings with the largest budgets and the most ambitious programmes do not necessarily win out.
