PRESS RELEASE

Paris, 26 October 2010

Tonkin Zulaikha Greer with JMD Design & the City of Sydney, and Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture named winners of WAN Awards 2010 Urban Design sector

The sheer diversity of the innovative, vibrant, intelligent designs submitted for this session of the Awards demonstrates, according to the jury, the new urban design challenges in a context of financial cut-backs that are forcing architects to find new ways to express their creative intent.

The old reservoir under Paddington gardens in Sydney is a listed as a site of Australian State Heritage. Its subtle conversion into a redesigned urban park, has become a most popular place for the people of Sydney.

The Wan Award in the unbuilt category went to the first phase of the Chicago Central Area DeCarbonisation plan, a roadmap for meeting the 2030 goal of a 100 % reduction in CO2 emissions.

The WAN Awards programme is organised by World Architecture News, the international on-line magazine, UIA media partner. Each session of this bi-monthly awards programme is devoted to a different sector of the built environment.

The next session of the WAN Awards is for the commercial buildings sector. The deadline for submitting projects is 31 October 2010.
