On 20 - 23 April 2008, BATIMAT will host four complementary trade fairs in Abu Dhabi dedicated to building performance in terms of technical innovation, energy consumption, economy, environmental protection, and safety. The fairs will present the latest smart building solutions in the realms of structure, envelope, and comfort. The UIA is a partner in these fairs that will bring together architects, engineers, promoters, and manufacturers. BUILDING FUTURES GULF by BATIMAT is four fairs on a single site: STRUCTURE GULF: structural solutions for sustainable building ENVELOPE GULF: flexible solutions and designs for facade, cladding, joinery,and shutters INTELLIGENT BUILDING GULF: comfortand security solutions for intelligent living. HVAC GULF: technical solutions for combining comfort with energy efficiency. THE WORLD OF ARCHITECTS A space at the heartof the fairs will be dedicated exclusively to architects and preferential conditions arebeing offered for stands that will allow them to exchange, exhibit their work, and make professional and business contacts in an area reserved for the promotion of the profession. SPECIALISED CONFERENCES The International Union of Architects is organising a series of conferences by specialists under the general heading of fair practice, to be introduced by UIAPresident Gaetan Siew. The following topics will be addressed during these conferences: • The impact of new equipment in the global conception of buildings by former UIA Presidents Rod Hackney (United Kingdom) and Olufemi Majekodunmi (Nigeria) •Living facades for sustainable architecture by Massimo Fioraso (Italy) • Air quality and energy performance: two priorities for buildings in the Middle East by Nikos Fintikakis (Greece) and Jean Marie Charpentier (France) • Structural technologies: the key for long building life by Gunham Danisman (Turkey) • Energy performance: the new challenge for Middle Eastern building by Taoufik el Euch (Tunisia) and Michel Barmaki (Lebanon) • The whole-life-value concept: for cost-effective and sustainable building byOdile Decq (France) and German Suarez Betancourt (Colombia) • Integration and renewable energy sources in today’s building by Vivianna Metallinou (Greece).
