The development of this site of 1 350 000 m2 is planned in the framework of the prestigious regattas of the 32nd America’s Cup tobe held in Valencia in 2007. It is an opportunity for the city and the region to develop an ambitious maritime urban planning programme highlighting the relationship between the city and the sea. In proposing this programme to the world community of architects, Consorcio Valencia 2007 put the accent on original and innovative solutions, to reflect the level of the ambitions and dynamism of the city, respecting and integrating the urban context and its economic, historical and cultural potential. The international competition in a single stage received the approval of the UIA. The jury, presided by Rita Barberá Nomma, Mayor of Valencia & President of Consorcio Valencia, included Carmen Alborch, member of the Spanish Parliament, Arantxa Nuñoz, architect (Spain), Ourania Kloutsinioti, architect, UIA representative (Greece), Jaime Lerner, Past President of the UIA (Brazil), Cui Kai, architect (Republic of China) and Donald Lambert, architect (Netherlands).
