Valencia del Mar
Marina Real Juan Carlos I

The prestigious regattas of the 32nd America’s Cup will be held in Valencia, Spain, in 2007. Both the city and the region are taking advantage of this opportunity to develop ambitious urban planning projects, notably along the waterfront, intended to favour exchange between the city and the sea.

Consorcio Valencia 2007, a public organisation that unites national, regional and municipal authorities, is launching an international ideas competition to plan a part of the facilities related to the America’s Cup and the area around them. The site covers a total area of approximately 1 350 000 m2 within Valencia’s inner docks and annex spaces, plus a water surface of around 565 000 m2. The area is to be called Valencia del Mar - Marina Real Juan Carlos I.

This international competition was approved by the International Union of Architects - UIA, and is open to architects around the world. The official launch date is 1st October 2006, and registrations will be open until 31st October 2006.

Three prizes of 150 000 Euro, 100 000 Euro, 50 000 Euro as well as up to three honourable mentions of 20 000 Euro each will be awarded by an international jury, and the winners may be commissioned to develop their project, either partially or in its entirety.
