REVALORISATION OF THE GENEIZE DISTRICT OF BEIRUT

This residential district houses many examples of 19th century architecture, many of which figure on the list of historical sites. Unlimited real-estate promotion and speculation in Beirut threaten to completely destroy this district. After having identified the sensitive areas and collected the architectural vocabulary of the area, the authors placed new structures that play the role of icons and reference points. These elements are clearly linked by a pedestrian trail, which creates a link between past and future to breathe new life into this neighbourhood. An effective example of urban acupuncture.
