Winner: Ghiyas Aljundi, architect (Syria), for his project << A regional planning project based on the improvement and transformation of traditional rural housing >> - Idleb, Syria.
This project takes the traditional housing unit and, treating it as a living cell it allows it, in full simplicity to reassemble freely thus transforming and improving the traditional format. The transformation is supple, never monotonous nor systematic. Remaining free of any formality it maintains the identity of the region and the population. It is an excellent example of a true and respectful development of a traditional housing technique in this part of the world.
