DESIGN OF THE GORÉE MEMORIAL (Senegal)

The Memorial, a closed narrow and oppressive space, is a symbol of an unalterable past. The primary access is a passageway, punctuated by a forest of monolithic pylons that disappear into the sea, and across which lies a grand plaza providing access to the museum. The museum which is formed around a big glazed garden patio is entirely covered by vegetation and thermally protected by the city. It is suppressed to bring emphasis to the Memorial.
