| Created by the DuPont de Nemours Company, this annual architectural awards programme rewards the authors of outstanding architectural design and innovative use of laminated glass as a major element of the construction. DuPont produces polyvinyle Butacite, used to bond the various layers of laminated glass. The Awards are named Benedictus, in homage to the scientist of the same name, who invented this material. Launched for the first time on the occasion of the UIA Congress in Chicago, in 1993, this programme has been approved by the International Union of Architects (UIA). It is organised under the aegis of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Since its creation, the Benedictus Awards have attracted entries from more than 250 architectural firms and highlighted a series of outstanding edifices, recognised unanimously by the professionals and critics internationally. The 2002 grand prize was awarded to Dirk Jan Postel (The Netherlands) for his project the Temple of Love located near Avallon (France); the transformation of a classical edifice into a residence. 2003 JURY The international jury for the 2003 Awards is composed of: Santiago Calatrava (Spain), Lewis Koerner (Italy), Julie Snow (USA).
