Heritage and Cultural Identity

What we do

 

The UIA Heritage & Cultural Identity Work Programme promotes methods for the conservation of architectural heritage and work to protect existing and future heritage and cultural sites from natural disasters. The Programme engages in questions of urban and sustainable development, rehabilitation, renovation and conversion of existing sites, and strive to establish high international standards for good practice.

 

How we do it

 

Research - Working in collaboration with politicians and architects, Programme members are constantly developing case studies of architectural heritage.

 

Expert Counsel - The Programme offers professional consulting and organises international dialogue between architects and students specialised in the conservation and research of architectural heritage.

 

Who we work with

 

Anyone engaged in work with culture and heritage sites, including public authorities, academics, students, architects and sustainable development actors.

Directors

  • In-Souk Cho - Korea
    In-Souk Cho is the International Co-director of the UIA Work Programme for Heritage and Cultural Identity. She is also Vice-president of ICOMOS-ISCARSAH. She has a Ph.D in Architecture (Architectural History & Theory), specializing in historic conservation and restoration. In-Souk Cho is the founder and Principal of DaaRee Architect & Associates, Seoul and has also taught Architectural History, Design, Design studio, Hanok and traditional culture. She won the Architectural Design Award for Hanok Excellency 2011 and the ARCASIA Award for Architecture 2011-2012.
  • Bayramov Rizvan - Azerbaijan
    Bayramov Rizvan is International Co-director of the UIA Work Programme for Heritage and Cultural Identity. He is an Architect for PASHA Bank OJSC, Azerbaijan and associate professor at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. He has extensive experience in architectural design, site construction management, cultural heritage preservation research, and cultural heritage preservation management. He has also acted as ICCROM council member, Country representative at the Council of Europe heritage commission, Country representative at the World Heritage Committee Sessions, and Head of Commission for heritage, Azerbaijan Union of Architects. He has been awarded the State Medal for Progress.

General Secretariat

The UIA General Secretariat, placed under the responsibility of the Secretary General, is the Union's executive body and the administrative centre for the coordination of relations between the UIA Member Sections and their activities.

The General Secretariat assists architects and architecture students in getting into contact with professional colleagues throughout the world, from professional organisations and architectural schools to museums and media.

The General Secretariat helps architects to keep up to date with UIA activities, its partners and Member Sections.
