Arab Architects Awards
On Saturday 27 October was the long-awaited announcement of the 9 winners of the Arab Architects Awards.
The Arab Architects Awards is a biennial international competition celebrating design from Arab architects. The first edition took place last week in Beirut, from the 25-27 October.
The event featured presentations of 35 impressive projects divided into 9 categories.
Alongside the shortlisted projects there was also an exhibition of architecture projects submitted by the host country’s architecture schools, an exhibition of architectural and engineering products, services, and companies, and lastly, a showcase of the work of the late Arch. Assem Salam.
The 10 winners and their projects:
Winner of Winners Award: Arch. Fouad Samara, Sheikh Nahyan Center for Arabic Studies and Intercultural Dialogue (CASID), Al Koura, Lebanon
Private housing: Arch. Hashim Sarkis, The Courtowers Houses, Amchit, Lebanon
Collective housing: Arch. Ahmed Taha and Arch. Hattan Basrawi, 577 Residence, Jeddah, KSA
Public buildings: Arch.Youssef Anastas and Arch. Elias Anastas, Toulkarem Court House, Toulkarem, Palestine
Culture & education: Arch.Tarik Zoubdi and Arch. Mounir Benchekroun, Wall of Knowledge, El Jadida, Morocco
Rehabilitation: Arch. Rami Daher, The Old Electricity Hangar, Amman, Jordan
Touristic & recreational: Arch. Ammar Khammash, Dana Guest House, Dana, Jordan
Commercial & workspaces: Arch. Saja Nashashibi, Capital Bank VIP Branch, Amman, Jordan
Public spaces: Arch. Jaafar Tukan and Arch. Shadi Abdulsalam, Mahmoud Darwich Memorial, Ramallah, Palestine
Religious: Arch. Wael Awar, Al Waraqa Mosque, Dubai, UAE
