UIA Gold Medal and Triennial Prizes

Traditionally, the UIA celebrates the laureates of its Gold Medal and Triennial Prizes as well as the winners of the prizes organised on a triennial basis by its work programmes and commissions during its triennial Congresses. This year, the UIA Awards ceremony will be divided into three parts: the first part, taking place on 19 July, at 8:00 (Brasilia Time) will feature the recognised projects in the inaugural edition of the UIA Innovation in Architectural Education Prize, organised by the UIA’s Education Commission.

The second part, featuring the winning projects from the two prizes, Golden Cubes Awards and the Friendly & Inclusive Spaces Awards, organised by UIA Work Programmes Architecture & Children and Architecture For All, will take place on 20 July at 8:00 (Brasilia Time).

The last part of the UIA2021RIO Awards programme will start on 22 July at 8:30 (Brasilia Time) with the recognition of the UIA Triennial Prizes, beginning with statements by UIA President Thomas Vonier and the President of Mido Watches, the UIA’s official sponsor and culminating with a tribute to the UIA 2021 Gold Medalist, Paulo Mendes da Rocha.

International Student Competition Maré-Cidade

Organised by the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) with the support from the  UIA and UN-Habitat, the competition sought sustainable design solutions for the integration of the Maré-Cidade, one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest informal settlements, into the city of Rio.

The award ceremony will take place on 20 July at 12:00 Brasilia time
