Valéria Hazan is an architect with a Master in urbanism, and is the Executive Director of the Rio 2020 Organizing Committee for the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture. Former Undersecretary of urbanism for Rio de Janeiro, she has played a key role in the city’s urban planning for the last 14 years. During this time, she participated in numerous proposals for studies and urban legislation, including the 2011 Master Plan and the Law of Land Use and Occupation.
In the years preceding her experience at City Hall, Valéria Hazan accumulated numerous experiences as a partner of architectural firms and as Assistant Professor of urbanism at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC / Rio).
Valéria acted as member of the Executive Council of the Brazilian Institute of Architects (IAB) for four years and jointly led the organisation of the institutional exhibitions of the Brazilian Congress of Architects in Rio de Janeiro in 2003.
Valéria will be participating in the first panel of the ACE-UIA International Conference on Design Competitions, 25 October 2019, UNESCO headquarters, Paris.
