It is a great honour to reach out to the world’s architects following my election as President of the International Union of Architects during our General Assembly held on 6-9 July in Copenhagen, Denmark.
As I explained during my speech to the Assembly before my election, I have outlined three priorities:

The UIA World Congress of Architects, held in Copenhagen (Denmark) on 2-6 July 2023 concluded with the “Copenhagen Lessons”. These are 10 principles for a rapid and radical change in the built environment to reach the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On the occasion of a workshop organised as part of the UIA World Congress of Architects, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) and UIA Region I have released a joint publication entitled ‘High-quality Architecture and Built Environment: a Political Goal’.
The city of Barcelona has been officially designated as World Capital of Architecture for 2026 by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay. The designation was made on the recommendation of the Joint UNESCO-UIA Committee for the World Capital of Architecture that is presided by the eminent architect, Dominique Perrault.
