UIA ADOPTS RESOLUTIONS ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Following the recently concluded 136th Session of the International Union of Architects (UIA), held in Lucknow (India) on 29-30 November 2018, the UIA notes with concern the recent findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and recognises the important role played by architects and other built environment professionals around the world in the battle against climate change.

The 136thCouncil in Lucknow, India adopted the following resolutions:

  • In light of the on-going 24th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Agreement in Katowice, Poland, the UIA calls on its member sections to develop and implement action plans to engage with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and advance the world’s global agenda to safeguard people, prosperity and the planet.
  • In light of the UIA’s commitment to support the delivery of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the UIA Council invited the Secretary General to consider the extent to which the current Work Programmes contribute to the delivery of the Goals and to identify gaps between the aims of the Goals and the scope of the Work Programmes.
  • In light of the UIA’s commitment to support delivery of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the UIA Council invited the Chairs of the Education and Professional Practice Commissions to consider the extent to which their current work contributes to the delivery of the Goals and to suggest ways in which their actions could have greater impact.
