The Brazilian Institute of Architects (IAB), in collaboration with the IAB Maranhão Department (IAB-MA), the International Union of Architects (UIA) represented by its Secretary General, Rui Leão, the Pan American Federation of Architects Associations (FPAA), and the International Council of Portuguese-Speaking Architects (CIALP), has launched the São Luís Charter.
Drafted during the international seminar “Building a Global Urban Agenda for COP30”, the Charter proposes a global framework for equitable, inclusive, and sustainable urban development in response to the climate emergency.
Founded on three fundamental paradigms : environmental, cultural, and civilisational, the document calls upon the international community, decision-makers, and built environment professionals to turn global climate commitments into tangible, actionable solutions.
The São Luís Charter will be officially presented during COP30, to be held in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025, as a contribution from the architectural community towards shaping resilient and climate-responsive cities.
