12/03/2026

Chilean architect Smiljan Radić has been named the laureate of the 2026 Pritzker Architecture Prize, the most prestigious recognition in the field of architecture. The award honours architects whose work has made a significant contribution to humanity and the built environment.

Radić’s architecture is widely recognised for its poetic and experimental character. His projects often explore the relationship between architecture, landscape and memory, creating spaces that feel both fragile and deeply rooted in their surroundings. Working largely in Chile but with an international presence, Radić has developed a distinctive approach that combines craft, material experimentation and a strong sensitivity to place.

Among his most notable works are the Regional Theatre of Biobío in Concepción and the 2014 Serpentine Pavilion in London, a project that brought international attention to his practice. Throughout his career, Radić has challenged conventional architectural forms, often blending sculpture, architecture and landscape into a single spatial experience.

The Pritzker Prize jury praised his ability to create architecture that is both imaginative and deeply human, highlighting the emotional and experiential qualities of his work.

Radić becomes the second Chilean architect to receive the Pritzker Prize, reinforcing the growing influence of Latin American architecture on the global stage.
