2026 Laureate – The Jean Tschumi Prize for Architectural Writing and Critique
Jacques Gubler (b. 1940, Switzerland) is an architectural historian, critic, and educator.
His work focuses on the history of 19th- and 20th-century architecture, with particular attention to Switzerland and the international modern movement.
His research addresses a wide range of subjects, including reinforced concrete construction, architectural theory, and figures such as Le Corbusier and Jean Tschumi.
Educated at the University of Lausanne, where he obtained his doctorate, he has taught at institutions including the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the University of Geneva, and the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio.
Across his academic and editorial work, he has contributed to the development of architectural history as a field of study, combining research, teaching, and publication.
Widely recognised in the field, he has authored and edited numerous books and articles, and contributed to journals and exhibitions, supporting the dissemination of architectural knowledge internationally.
