The International Union of Architects, in collaboration with UN-Habitat, has announced the launch of the second cycle of the UIA 2030 Award. This biennial award promotes the work of architects contributing to the delivery of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development together with the New Urban Agenda.

UIA End of Year Report

2023 was eventful for the International Union of Architects in quite a number of ways. This year, the UIA marked its 75th anniversary, held its triennial Congress and General Assembly in Copenhagen (a city that was also the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture) and elected its Council for the 2023-2026 term.

Daylight Talk by Liene Jākobsone – Light, Views, Transparencies

The 2024 Daylight Talk series kicks off with ‘Light, Views, Transparencies’ by Liene Jākobsone in collaboration with the Art Academy of Latvia.

Discussing some of the practice’s projects, the lecture will reveal a significant part of the conceptual approach of Sampling: the exploration of how architecture unfolds in the eyes of its inhabitants and what unexpected and unusual experiences it can offer.

The 2023 Daylight Talk series will conclude this year with Daliana Suryawinata and Florian Heinzelmann from SHAU Architects.  The pair will give the Daylight Talk ‘Between Capricorn & Cancer’ addressing daylighting in tropical regions, exploring design approaches between the quantitative and qualitative, rational and intuitive, formal and informal, while oscillating within these boundaries.

UIA2024KL: UIA International Forum

The city of Kuala Lumpur will host the next UIA International Forum (UIA2024KL) on 15-19 November 2024 with the theme “Diversecity”. The event, organised by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), will seek to examine how emerging economies and growing cities can achieve humanity and sustainable growth.

The UIA is present and active at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) taking place in Dubai on 30 November to 12 December 2023. Its delegation is led by UIA Past President Gaetan Siew as well as Co-Directors of the Sustainable Development Goals Commission Cid Blanco and Iman Gawad.
