Affordable and Quality Housing for All

03/11/2025

Across Europe, countries are facing a housing crisis marked by a shortage of affordable homes, declining quality in new construction, and the poor condition of much of the existing housing stock. Between 2015 and 2023, house prices in the EU increased by nearly 50%, placing growing pressure on households and communities.

In response, the European Union has placed housing at the forefront of its political agenda, marking a significant shift in both ambition and approach. For the first time, the European Commission has appointed a Commissioner for Energy and Housing, tasked with developing the first European Affordable Housing Plan and a European Strategy for Housing Construction.

A public conference on this topic will take place on 13 November 2025 in Prague, organised by the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) and hosted by the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA).

The event will provide an important platform to discuss how architects and urban planners can help shape more affordable, sustainable, and high-quality housing for all Europeans.
