The UIA Architecture for All Work Programme is pleased to launch, as part of its ongoing activities, an international survey addressed to architects, academics, policy makers, public authorities, NGOs, civil society actors, and professionals involved in architecture.
The UIA Architecture for All (AfA) Work Programme works to raise awareness of the architect’s responsibility to ensure that accessibility and inclusive design are integral components of architectural design, construction, and education. Through research, advocacy, and knowledge sharing, the programme promotes good practices in accessible and inclusive urban design and architecture worldwide.
Purpose of the Survey
The objective of this survey is to assess, at the international level, the implementation of accessible and inclusive built environments. It aims to explore not only the results achieved, but also the processes, challenges, and lessons learned in the development of inclusive environments.
In particular, the survey seeks to identify:
-
Obstacles encountered in the implementation of accessible and inclusive environments
-
Strategies and approaches used to overcome these challenges
-
Practices that strengthen architectural education, professional practice, and implementation through effective legal and regulatory frameworks
By collecting experiences from diverse regions and professional contexts, the survey will help build a global overview of current practices and challenges in inclusive design.
Contribution to UIA 2026
The findings of the survey will contribute to the work of the Architecture for All Work Programme and the UIA Architectural Education Commission, and will be presented at the UIA World Congress of Architects 2026, taking place from 28 June to 2 July 2026. The Congress is one of the world’s most important gatherings for architectural dialogue, bringing together professionals from across the globe to reflect on the role of architecture in addressing contemporary challenges.
The results will support international dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the development of future initiatives promoting inclusive and accessible environments worldwide.
