The Innovative Bioclimatic school complex in Crete

Through the open international architectural competition “Innovative Bioclimatic European School complex in Crete”, the School Buildings Organisation of Greece (SBO) sought the best ideas from around the world for the new European school in Crete.

Architecture… for a Better World

The International Union of Architects (UIA) established the World Architecture Day in 1986. It is traditionally celebrated every year on the first Monday in October to coincide with the United Nations World Habitat Day, under the theme “Architecture… for a Better World”.

Art Gallery New South Wales

The Art Gallery of New South Wales traces its origins to a public meeting on April 24, 1871, which established an “Academy of Art” for the purpose of promoting the fine arts through lectures, art classes and regular exhibitions.

The Gallery sought inspiring concepts for how it could create a unique, authentic, inspiring and agile 21st century art museum.

This was a two-stage competition, officially endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), the city of Sydney, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and the International Union of Architects (UIA).

Climate Change Action!

The President of the International Union of Architects (UIA), Thomas Vonier, has issued a statement on the occasion of World Architecture Day (WAD) 2017. There he confirms and explains the meaning behind the chosen theme, “Climate Change Action!”,  an issue around which all architects should rally without hesitation, since they have a fundamental role to play. With this declaration, Thomas Vonier launches a call to action, for the planet and for humanity.

The 2024 Edition of the Daylight Award launched on Tuesday 16 May, on the UNESCO International Day of Light.

Established in 1980 by the philanthropic foundations VILLUM FONDEN, VELUX FONDEN and VELUX STIFTUNG, and endorsed by the UIA since 2020, it is conferred biennially in two categories: The Daylight Award for Research and The Daylight Award for Architecture.
