In response to the invitation to highlight the achievements of women architects within the UIA community for International Women’s Day 2026, the Colegio de Arquitectos de Costa Rica (CACR) is pleased to present two distinguished professionals whose work and dedication have recently been recognised.
Evangelina Quesada Corrales
Project: Rise Escuela Waldorf (unbuilt project)
Recognition: Acknowledgement at the II Central American Architecture Biennial (BARCA 2025), held in Honduras.
Architect Evangelina Quesada Corrales received recognition at the Central American Architecture Biennial (BARCA 2025) for her project Rise Escuela Waldorf. The proposal envisions a Waldorf school located in Pérez Zeledón, San José, Costa Rica, designed to create an educational environment aligned with Waldorf pedagogical principles. Although currently unbuilt, the project was acknowledged for its architectural quality and its thoughtful response to the educational and environmental context.

Recognition: Publication of a commemorative fanzine celebrating her professional career.
Architect Julia Lettow Van Wilpe has been honoured through the publication of a commemorative fanzine recognising her more than four decades of professional practice as both an architect and educator. The publication highlights her longstanding contributions to architectural practice in Costa Rica, as well as her influence in shaping new generations of architects through her academic work.
