THE KHARTOUM DECLARATION ON GENDER EQUITY IN ARCHITECTURE

Drafted by Ms. Pei Ing TAN (Malaysia), the Khartoum Declaration on Gender Equity in Architecture was adopted by the members of the UIA Professional Practice Commission (PPC),  during its meeting held in Khartoum, Sudan, on 16-17 February 2017, and the 130th  UIA Council session, Seoul (Korea) on 3-4 March 2017:

We, the members of the UIA Professional Practice Commission (PPC), triennium term 2014-2017, during the PPC meeting held on 16-17, February 2017 in Khartoum, Sudan declare the following:

The UIA aims to promote the culture of inclusion within the profession and recognizes that gender disparity in the architectural profession needs to be seriously addressed.

The UIA recognizes the importance of the contribution by female Architects to the profession of architecture and the built environment.

The UIA commits to establish the UIA Gender Equity in Architecture Policy, which sets out the framework and principles designed to maximize fair and equitable access to opportunities for female Architects and to realize the goal of equitable practice.
